THE BUTTERFLY PROJECT
The Angel Cart was donated to the Infant Special Care Unit at UTMB by The Butterfly Project board of 2011. The Angel Cart is a portable cart that can be taken throughout the hospital and into patient rooms who have exhibited extra need of support and care. Patients can receive a variety of entities that may help them and their families feel more at home while in the hospital setting. Educational and spiritual literatures, arts and crafts, stuffed animals, tea bags, battery-operated candles will be available for the patient/family in need. For the family who has lost a child or had a fetal demise, The Butterfly Project volunteers will be there for support during bereavement. We are able to give the bereaved family resources, such as brochures about The Compassionate Friends of Galveston County.
In an effort to continue building upon The Angel Cart, the 2013 board added bereavement boxes. Each box is a memory box for the family to keep with small keepsakes for a lock of hair, a foot or hand print, a photo album, and two identical bears- one to stay with the child and one for the parents to keep.
